1961 Medal Celebrates Volkswagen Beetle

The famous German automobile maker Volkswagen was featured on a 1961 silver medal to celebrate the five millionth car as a company after World War II. The company was shattered after World War II but came back with a bang later in 1945 to achieve the unthinkable milestone in 1961. The 25.11 grams, Extremely Fine medal is offered at Emporium Hamburg’s auction on 25th and 26th April with an initial bid value of €60.The obverse features the German engineer Heinz Heinrich Nordhoff who took care of company affairs after the war in Wolfsburg, Germany, home. The coin also features his signature in relief. The reverse features VW Beetle, and an inscription stating the milestone.
