New €50 Banknotes Circulated on 4th April

The European Central Bank (ECB) officially announced that new €50, the fourth banknote in the Europa series will enter circulation on 4th April.

Enhanced security features include a portrait window which becomes transparent against the light. Europa, a figure from Greek mythology is depicted in the portrait window. The portrait is seen in the watermark as well. An emerald number has light moving up and down upon tilting the note. Raised print is included for the visually impaired.

As per an ongoing survey, almost three-fourth of all payments in the euro area are made in cash. Over 9 billion €50 notes are in circulation, making up for 46% of all euro banknotes. Older €50 banknotes will remain legal tender and will be slowly withdrawn from circulation. New €100 and €200 banknotes will be issued in 2019.
