Stolen Rare Banknote Returned to Museum

A private 1817 £1 banknote that was stolen from the city museum of Padstow in Cornwall 33 years ago was returned through a post from St. Lucia. The banknote which was stolen in June 1984 was placed in a plain white envelope with a postmark from the island of St. Lucia and without any return address.A local merchant called Thomas Rawlings owned the Padstow Bank. The museum officials were extremely surprised and happy to welcome back their prized possession. A same kind of note was sold by Spink in October 2012 for £390.
