As per official reports, the Central Bank of Afghanistan has burned 41 billion AFs worth of old Afghani banknotes in the last 11 years. Approximately 2.8 AFs are spent to print each Afghani banknote and people have been asked to keep their notes clean due to the high cost of printing.
Many members of the Parliament have raised their concern about the unclear and corrupt process of replacing old notes which has led to the circulation of a lot of black money in the market. Even though a lot of notes have already been replaced, the process is ongoing and will take some more time. They suggested that even though an authorised commission supervises the entire process, a new method for replacing old money needs to be implemented for eliminating corruption.
