2017-03-30 Thu

El Numiscadero, is a huge 354-page Spanish–English numismatic dictionary written by noted numismatist Gary Beals, of San Diego, Calif. The dictionary lists 2,543 Spanish terms, 1,876 English terms and has 1,264 illustrations and photographs.

Sections of the book include: introduction, Spanish to English glossary, English to Spanish glossary, lists of major numismatic associations, grading systems, the current spending power of old Spanish coins, money slang, monarchs of Spain, monarchs of Great Britain, Roman emperors, popes, and presidents of the United States.

The book breaks the language barrier between English-speaking and Spanish-speaking collectors. It will help in knowledge sharing in the field of numismatics. The author mentioned that rolling the edges of coins for stacking is called “upsetting” in American English, “rimming” in British English, and “torculadora work” in Spanish.

1,000 serially numbered first edition copies are already distributed equally in Europe and the Americas. The book can be purchased for $39. Members of any numismatic organisation can buy the coin at a discounted rate of $30.
