Snakes on Indian Stamps!

Snakes are long and legless reptiles. They are found plenty in India. The Dense and dark forest of India is the best habitat for the reptiles. This forest offers a wide range of area for giant snakes and abundant prey. There are 270 species of snakes in India, out of which about 60 are highly venomous.India Post issued a miniature sheet of INR 20 depicting the four different species of snakes found in India. These include Python, Bamboo Pit Viper, King Cobra and Gliding Snake.
India is a country where people give a lot of importance to animals. Each Indian religion has got a lot of beliefs and myths related to various animals. Snake worship is prevalent in India since ancient times. Though being venomous, snakes are one among those sacred animals!

The fun fact: The longest snake in the world is the reticulated python of southeastern Asia and the East Indies. It grows up to 30 feet long. The world's smallest species of snake is Barbados threadsnake. It is as thin as a Maggi noodle!
