Akbar died in 1605 AD; after a long reign of 50 years. He was succeeded by his son Salim, who took the throne with the title Jahangir (conqueror of the world). Jahangir ruled Delhi sultanate from 1605 to 1627.Jahangir was a successful and benevolent ruler. He was fond of painting, architecture, and fine arts. This can be clearly seen through his coins. Coins issued by Jahangir are very artistic and interesting.Coins which he issued before his coronation have a name ‘Salim’ inscribed on it. Coins which he issued during the first year of his reign bear the portrait of his father and the name ‘Nurud-din Jahangir Shah Akbar Shah’. In the year 1618; he issued gold and silver coins with the pictorial of the zodiac sign.
This beautiful artistic coin with ‘Ta Falak couplet’ was issued by him during the 5th year of his reign in the year AH 1018. The obverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Banam Shah Jahangir Sikka Lahore’ with the AH year 1018. And reverse of the coin inscribed as ‘Bad Har Rawan Ta Falak Bavad Dar Dair; with the Regnal year 5, written at the bottom.
