1936 Berlin Olympic Games Gold Medal to be Auctioned

On 12th April, RR auction is offering a 1936 Berlin Summer Olympics gold medal that captain of Germany’s rowing team, Gustav Schafer received. He won in the single sculls competition. Germany won a medal in each of the seven rowing events, out of which five were gold medals.The medal was made of gilt and designed by Italian painter and sculptor Giuseppi Cassioli. The obverse features a seated Victory with the Coliseum in the background. The reverse depicts a winning athlete being carried by other competitors. Other inscriptions include the manufacturer’s hallmark, B.H. MAYER, PFORZHEIM. The medal is encased in its original leather presentation case and has an estimate of $15,000+.
