Quilling Artwork on Coins

2016-03-21 Mon

Coin Invest Trust is releasing a Quilling Art Bird 2 Dollars 2017 .999 silver 1/2 oz coin for the Cook Islands with a mintage limit of 999 pieces. The coins are struck at B. H. Mayer’s Kunstprägeanstalt, Munich and feature the common portrait of Elizabeth II, her name, name of country nation and denominational value on the obverse.

The reverse features a bird on a branch. The bird and two tree leaves are made with paper quilling technique. Another inscription reads QUILLING ART 2017. Every coin is unique with hand-crafted paperwork.

Quilling is a technique in which paper stripes are rolled up to create different shapes. This artwork was practised by monks and nuns during the Renaissance. When Upcycling was not known, leftover paper stripes from book trimming processes were used to make designs for book covers.
