2017-03-14 Tue

A new series of euro coin are going to be released by The Republic of San Marino in March. The designs were changed before this in the year 2002.

Most of San Marino’s coins were collected but not circulated widely. In 2012, the coins had to be officially released into circulation at a face value. Every denomination has a separate design with the nation’s name and the 12 stars of the European Union. The new coins feature designs inspired by the earlier coin series. The denomination and exact designs are different.

The new €2 coin will depict The Portrait of San Marino by Giovan Battista Urbinelli. The €1 coin will feature the Second Tower at Monte Titano. The Portrait of Saint Marino by the 19th century artist Emilio Retrosi is depicted on the 50-cent coin. Mount Titano and the three towers will be featured on the 20-cent coin. The 10-cent coin shows the Church of St. Francis, and the 5-cent coin depicts the Church of St. Quirinus. San Marino’s city gate is shown on 2-cent coins, and the official coat of arms of the Republic of San Marino is depicted on 1-cent coins.
