Luxembourg’s Volunteer Army Honoured on Coins

A new circulating commemorative €2 coin by Luxembourg celebrates the 50th anniversary of the country’s volunteer army. The army was founded 200 years back and in 1967 it became an all-volunteer organisation. Grand Duke Henri was appointed as the leader.The obverse features a portrait of Grand-Duke Henri, the inscription 50 JOER FRAIWELLEGEN-ARMEI, the army’s logo, 2017, Mint mark, initials of the Mint Master and LETZEBUERG. The inscriptions are in the country’s national language.
The reverse features the common European map design and the 12 stars of the European flag are on both sides of the ringed-bimetallic €2 8.5 gms coin.
