Delhi Sultan Jalal Al Din Firuz Khalji's Coin Sold For INR 55,000

Jalal Al-Din Firuz Khalji was the first ruler of Khalji Dynasty, he ruled Delhi Sultanate from 1290-1296. He came to the power after killing the last ruler of Mamluk Dynasty, Muiz Al-Din Kaiqubad. Jalal Al-Din Firuz Khalji was of a Turkish origin, he ruled Delhi Sultanate for 6 years and then he was killed by Ala Al-Din Muhammad Khalji.

Jalal Al-Din Firuz issued coins in gold, silver, copper and billon. He issued coins with the Caliph name ‘Al-Must’asim’. He also issued a bilingual jital coin in silver; obverse of this coin reads as ‘Al-Sultan Al-Azam Jalal Al-Dunya Wa’l Din’ and reverse of this reads as ‘Firuz Shah’ written in Arabic and ‘Sri Sultan Jalaluddin’ written in Nagari.

One of his gold tanka minted at Hadrat Delhi, which weighs around 10.9g, was sold for INR 55,000 at Oswal Auction. The obverse of the coin read as ‘Al Sultan Al-Azam Jalal Al-Dunya Wa’l Din Abul Muzaffar Firuz Shah Al-Sultan’ and the reverse of the coin read as ‘Al-imam Must’asim Amir Al-Mominin’ within the circle, mint name and date 692 written in the margin.
