Gujarat Sultanate Muzaffar Shah I’s Coin Sold For INR 1, 70,000

This silver coin was issued by Shams Al-Din Muzaffar Shah I; he was the founder of Muzaffarid dynasty in Gujarat. The real name of Muzaffar Shah was Zafar Khan; he was appointed as governor of Gujarat by Nasir-Ud-Din Muhammad Bin Tughluq IV in the year 1391.Shams Al-Din Muzaffar Shah I issued coins in silver and copper. Silver coins issued by him are of two types and are extremely rare. One of type has the name of Caliph ‘Abu Abd Allah’ and the other types were the name of the Caliph is not inscribed. Copper coins issued by him are scarce.
This silver tanka was sold for INR 1, 70,000 at Rajgor’s Auction. The obverse of the coin reads as ‘Muzaffar Shah Al-Sultan’ within the circle and ‘Shams Al-Dunya Wa’l Din’ in the margin. The reverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Na ib Amir Al-Minin Khulidat Khilafatahu abu Abd Allah’ date on the coin is not clearly visible. This coin is extremely rare.
