Princely State of Bahawalpur

Lying between the Sutlej River in North, the Himalayas in East, Yamuna River and Delhi District in South resides a Princely State of British India called Bahawalpur.

This state was under Punjab Agency but before that, it was a part of Durrani Empire. Mohammad Bahawal Khan Abbasi was the Founder of Bahawalpur State and also its first Amir (King). His successor Abbasi III entered into a Subsidiary Alliance with the British by which this state became a Princely State under British Raj.

This Gold Ashrafi of Bahawalpur State belongs to Medallic Coinage. Its obverse flan depicts the Bust of Amir Sadiq Muhammad Khan V and a Continuous legend in Persian. Its reverse flan depicts the ornate helmeted arms of Bahawalpur State. This Gold coin was minted by Bahawalpur mint and the date on the coin is depicted according to Hijri Calendar 1343 AH.

After India became independent in 1947 and was partitioned into two states, India and Pakistan. The state of Bahawalpur joined the Dominion of Pakistan and remained an autonomous entity till 1955. Later on, Bahawalpur merged with the province of West Pakistan.
