24 Silver Groats Dated 1464 – 1502 Discovered in England

On 28th January, a 26-piece coin hoard was discovered by a metal detectorist named Malcolm Shepherd near the Beeston Castle in England. The hoard includes 24 silver groats, dated 1464 to 1502, issued during the reigns of Edward IV and Henry VII. The coins were reviewed and authenticated by British Museum experts. The hoard also contains an Edward IV penny from 1471–72 and an Edward II era from 1310–14.The groats are made of 92.5 percent silver. Its market value is not known and it is not sure if it will be kept in a museum. Shepherd reported about the treasure find within 14 days as per legal rules. He is also eligible for a share of money that will be earned while selling the coins.
