Hisam Al-Din Hushang Shah was a Sultan of Malwa. His real name was Alp Khan; he took the title Hushang Shah after being crowned. He was the son of Dilawar Khan Ghuri, founder of Malwa Sultanate.Hisam Al Din Hushang Shah issued coins in gold, silver and copper. Gold coins which he issued had the legend written within the square on the obverse and written within the circle on the reverse, with date and shahada written in the margin. The silver tanka which he issued has no margin on both the sides and both the legends are written on plain surfaces. Silver half tanka which he issued is similar to the gold tanka.
One of his silver tanka was sold for INR 3,900 at Classical Numismatic Gallery on 10th April 2016. The obverse of the coin reads as ‘Al-Sultan Al-Azam Hisam Al-Dunya wa’l Din’ and the reverse the coin is inscribed as ‘Abul Mujahid Hushangshah Al Sultan, with date 838 written at the bottom.
