Next Mint Director Nomination Requires Support from Senate

2017-03-07 Tue

Even though the president selected the U.S. treasurer Rosa Gumataotao Rios, support of Senate is required. Senate floor's confirmation vote is required to select the Mint Director. The 43rd treasurer of the United States won’t require the approval of the U.S. Senate. While selecting the 39th director of the United States Mint, approval of the full Senate will be required. Rios became U.S. treasurer on 28 July 2009 for managing U.S. Mint and Bureau of Engraving and Printing. As per a new law that came into effect in 2012, Senate’s approval for selecting the treasurer of the United States is not required, but that’s not the case for selecting the Mint Director.

The 38th director of US Mint, Edmund C. Moy, left his private sector responsibilities in January 2011. His five-year term is nearing completion. Obama’s recommendations, Bibiana Boerio, a former automotive executive in Detroit, and Matthew Rhett Jeppson, former principal deputy director of the U.S. Mint have not reach the U.S. Senate yet.
