2017-03-06 Mon
A 1794 Liberty Cap cent, graded MS-63 brown with a CAC gold sticker was sold for $54,050 at the pre-Long Beach auction by Ira and Larry Goldberg’s on 12th February.150 large cents from the Haig Koshkarian collection and 85 early large cents from copper dealer Tom Reynolds were offered. The 1794 Liberty Cap cent belonged to Tom Reynolds. These CAC gold stickers are not commonly seen on higher-end coins since people like to go for the highest grade to get a better value. The mint frost covers the entire coin except for the highest points of the hair. The uncirculated coin might have been exposed to ‘cabinet friction’ on the obverse.
It belongs to the common Sheldon 29 variety and was a part of the Swedish National Museum Collection till the 1960s.
