2017-03-04 Sat

A 1794 Flowing Hair silver dollar, graded About Uncirculated 58+ from the Blue Moon Collection will be offered at an auction by Stack’s Bowers Galleries on 30th March at the Whitman Baltimore Expo. The coin has Golden and peach-tinted lustrous surfaces with natural frost. There is a violet toning near the rims while the reverse has light silver gray, gold, orange, blue, and violet toning.

All the 2,000 1794 dollars were struck using one set of obverse and reverse dies. This particular coin is classified as Die State II with small die-clash marks. Almost 150 1794 Flowing Hair dollars exist today but most of them have some or the other fault. A graded Specimen 66, first dollar struck at the U.S. Mint was sold for over $10 million in 2013.
