New German Coin Celebrates the State of Rhineland-Palatinate

Germany released the 12th annual Bundeslander circulating commemorative €2 coin for 2017, celebrating one of its 18 states, Rheinland-Palatinate. The coin features Porta Nigra, in Trier, considered as the best-preserved Roman city gate north of the Alps.The obverse design features the inscription RHEINLAND-PFALZ, country’s code, D, the Mint mark, 2017 and the initials of the designer, Chocola Frantisek CH. The reverse features the common European map design with 12 stars of the European flag on both sides of the ringed-bimetallic 8.5 grams €2 coin. Thirty million examples were released on 2nd February.
