Firuz Shah Tughluq was a Sultan of Delhi from 1351 to 1388 AD. He was from Tughluq Dynasty. He sat on the throne after the death Muhammad bin Tughluq. Tughluq dynasty was a Muslim dynasty of Turkish origin who ruled Delhi Sultanate in Medieval India. Tughluq dynasty was founded by Ghazi Malik who assumed the throne under the title Ghiyath-al-Din Tughluq in the year 1320.

Firuz Shah Tughluq issued coins in gold, silver, copper and billon. Gold, copper and billon coins issued by him are common, but his silver coins are rare. Certain coins issued by him are with the name of Caliph Al-Hakim II, which may have started from the reign of Muhammad bin Tughluq and may have continued into the reign of Firuz Shah Tughluq. First gold and billon coins which he issued in his own name are dated from AH 759.

One of his gold tanka which weighs around 11g was listed for INR 60,000-80,000 at Classical Numismatic Gallery. The obverse of this coin reads as ‘Firuz Shah Sultani’ and reverse of the coin reads as ‘Na ‘ib Amir Al-Mu’minin’ meaning ‘the deputy of the commander of the faithful’ with the date 787 written at the bottom.
