In the 15th Century, participants used crossbows in shooting contests during the times of the Old Swiss Confederacy. Today, a federal shooting festival is held every five years, where more than 50,000 sharpshooters showcase their shooting skills. Smaller festivals are held annually as well. The 2017 festival in the canton of Glarus, Swiss Alps is celebrated on Switzerland’s annual shooting taler medals.

The reverse features the traditional wreath made of oak leaves and laurel around the denomination 50 FR for the silver piece and 5000 FR for the gold medal. A marksman’s powder horn and bandolier hang from crossed firearms are also depicted. The legend is featured in French and German stating that it is redeemable during the shooting festival.

The mintage limit of the Proof .900 fine silver taler 25 grams medal is 1,200 pieces and costs $99.95. The mintage limit of the Proof .999 fine gold taler 15.567 grams medal is 200 pieces and costs $1,499.95 each.
