2017-02-25 Sat

The Austrian Mint issued the first 10 Euro coin under the new series, “Guardian Angels” on 22nd February. The series is a talismanic four-coin interfaith series of 10 euro coins in silver and copper featuring historical representations of angels. The silver Proof coins are minted with colour application technique. The angels celebrated on the coins have been followed in Judaism, Zoroastrianism, Christianity and Islam.

The new coin features Michael – The Protecting Angel or the leader of angels. It is said that Michael offers protection from self-doubt and nightmares, helps improve self-knowledge, self-respect and promotes hard work and diligence. The reverse features Saint Michael fighting the dragon, an image from the painting at Saint Miquel de Soriguerola in Catalonia, Spain.

Proof and Special Uncirculated will have a mintage limit of 30,000 and 40,000 respectively. The Proof coins come in a special box with a certificate of authenticity that includes technical details and background information. The uncirculated coins come in a blister pack with a Michael design on the sleeve. The regular circulation finish copper version will have a rilled edge whereas the silver coins have a smooth edge. Proof coins come in a frosted synthetic box with the series logo and a small booklet featuring details.
