One Error in Over 150 Million Canadian Silver Maple Coins
2017-02-24 Fri
NGC has authenticated and graded an extremely rare Canadian 2005 $5 Silver Maple Leaf error. Instead of a 31.1g .9999 silver planchet, it was incorrectly struck on a 25.1g .9999 silver planchet originally used for striking commemorative silver dollars.Extensive quality control, especially weight-check processes are followed when these coins are minted at Royal Canadian mint. That’s the reason why such an error coin is extremely rare.
Out of more than 150 million one-ounce silver Maple Leaf bullion coins that have been produced until now, this one is absolutely unique as per experts. The error coin is much smaller and lighter than normal. Even though the coin contains less silver, it is valued much higher due to its unique mint error.
