Kim Jong II, born on 16th February, 1941 in Siberia, Russia was a North Korean politician and son of the former North Korean premier and (communist) Korean Workers’ Party (KWP) chairman Kim Il-Sung. He succeeded his father as the ruler of North Korea in 1994 until his death on 17th December, 2011.North Korean government claims his birth was accompanied by many auspicious signs like the appearance of a double rainbow, emergence of a new star in the sky and changing of the season, thus, claiming him to be supernatural. His birthday is celebrated as the “Day of the Shining Star” since 2012.
The festival is celebrated in the capital of North Korea, Pyongyang. There are various performances, fireworks are displayed, a massive dance party is organized, etc. The festivities last two days; candies are distributed among kids, more ration and electricity are allocated than normal days, etc.
North Korean Postal Service issued this 10 North Korean Won flora stamp of their “The Dear Leader” on 10th February, 2011 to commemorate his 59th birth anniversary; 6 days before his actual birthday.
