Mao Zedong With an Extra Mole on Chinese Banknote
2017-02-15 Wed
The watermark of a 100-yuan banknote featured the late leader of China, Mao Zedong with an extra mole. 10 100-yuan banknotes were withdrawn from a Shanghai Pudong Development Bank ATM month, by a man from Wuhan, Hubei. When he took a closer look at the notes, he noticed the extra mole. When inquired, he was told that the notes weren’t fake. He could have got the notes exchanged at the bank but he chose to keep it as a souvenir. Many such notes have been reported earlier. Some watermarks also feature Mao Zedong with more hair and others have his mouth opening wider. In 2015, a note was withdrawn from an ATM with the anti-forgery lines placed on the wrong part of the note.
