Gold Tanka Of Delhi Sultan’s Sold for INR 90,000

Qutb Al Din Mubarak (AH 716-720; AD 1361-1320) was the sultan of Delhi and the last ruler of Khilji dynasty. His Full name is Qutb al-Din Mubarak Shah khilji. Khilji dynasty was founded by Jalal ud din Firuz Khilji and they were the second dynasty to rule the Delhi Sultanate of India. They were a Muslim dynasty of Turkish origin, who ruled last part of south Asia between 1290 and 1320. Qutb Al Din Mubarak was murdered by Khusro Khan in the year 1320 which ended the Khilji dynasty.

Qutb Al-Din Mubarak had issued coins in gold, silver, copper and Billon. According to his mint master Pheru, he created 44 different denominations, which contains more than 70 different types during his four years reign. But, many of these types are not known. For the first couple of years of his reign he issued the coins in round shape. But, from the year AH 718 his coins was struck in square shape.

One of his gold tanka, minted in Hadrat Dar-al-Khilafa which weighs around 10.9g, struck in the year AH 717 was sold for INR 90,000 at Todywalla Auction held in Ahmedabad on 11th February 2017. The obverse of this coin reads as ‘Al-Imam Al-Azam Khilafa Rabb Al-Alamin Qutb Al-Dunya wa Al-Din Muzaffar Mubarakshah. And the reverse of the coin reads as ‘Al-Sultan ibn Al-Sultan Al-Wathiq Billah Amir Al-Munin within circle, mint name and date written in margin. This coin is very rare.
