Slovenia's Gothic Art Issue
2016-01-06 Wed
Gothic art and architecture is a typical European Style. It applies to religious and secular buildings, sculpture, stained glass, and illuminated manuscripts and other decorative arts.Slovenia – a country located in central Europe has created a beautiful combination of this art and philately. Released in 2005 the se-tenant set of two stamps features the details of the Dance of Death fresco from the church of the Holy Trinity located in Hrastovlje.
The best feature of these stamps is that they are embossed on the skeleton. When they are rubbed by fingers one can actually feel the bones.
The frescos of Hrastovlje are the reminder of the eternal truth i.e. death. They show the transition of materiality life to nothingness.
The Hrastovlje Dance of Death is one of the special examples of long survived wall paintings.
