2017-02-11 Sat

The sale of 2017 Boys Town Centennial commemorative coins will begin on 9th March. 50,000 Proof and Uncirculated versions of gold $5 half eagles in total, 350,000 silver dollars and 300,000 copper-nickel clad half dollars will be released.

The gold coins from West Point Mint will have the W Mint mark, the silver dollars from the Philadelphia Mint will feature the P Mint mark, the Proof copper-nickel-clad half dollar from San Francisco Mint will have the S Mint mark and the Uncirculated version from Denver Mint will feature the D Mint mark.

A $35 surcharge will be added to each gold coin, a $10 surcharge for each silver dollar and $5 for each copper-nickel clad half dollar. After the production and associated costs are recovered, the rest will be donated to the Boys Town for serving the underserved communities in the US.

Discounts will be offered initially. The Gold Coin pricing will be based on the spot price of precious metals and will be disclosed just before the release. It will also depend on the U.S. Mint's 2016 Pricing of Numismatic and Commemorative Gold and Platinum Products Grid.

The obverse of the gold coin features a portrait of Father Flanagan, the inscriptions BOYS TOWN CENTENNIAL, IN GOD WE TRUST, FR. EDWARD FLANAGAN, LIBERTY, and 2017. The reverse features a hand holding a young oak tree growing from an acorn. The design represents each child helped by Boys Town, growing up to become a responsible and successful adult. Other inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, THE WORK WILL CONTINUE, FIVE DOLLARS, and E PLURIBUS UNUM.
