One of the gold dinar of Samatata region weighs around 6.75 grams. The obverse of it depicts the Nimabate king wearing a long tunic with earrings facing left, holding battle axe in his one hand and inscription in Brahmi around. The reverse of it has a loving couple (Mithuna) facing right, holding something in their hands, all within dotted circle. Traces of Brachmi legend is seen on the left of the couple which is read as ‘Shri Jeyo’. This coin is extremely fine and exceedingly rare.
Not much is known about this particular coin. The depiction of Mithuna couple is very innovative. Yikes! This coin was sold for INR 5,75,00. Also to read more on Samatata regions coin click here.
