1870 Standard Silver Pattern Dime Sold for $1,233.75

An 1870 Standard Silver pattern dime, graded Proof 64, with deep toning on both sides, from the Simpson Collection was sold for $1,233.75 by the Legend Rare Coin Auctions on 26th January in Las Vegas, Nev.Bob Simpson’s collection offered 85 Standard Silver patterns which were an attempt to support the redemption of fractional currency notes with coins containing less silver than the then existing circulating coins.
The Standard Silver pattern series is vast and not very popular. Nevertheless, it offers collectors an affordable option.
