Alupas were a feudatory of the Western Chalukyas ruling in the region of the Karnataka from 4th Century to 15th Century CE. The Alupas is the only family with a record of ruling the land for such a long duration. They were unquestionably in power as vassals or on their own for a thousand years.

They issued various gold and silver coins. It is difficult to ascertain the exact year as they do not bear the dates. The coins are issued with Kannada and Nagari inscriptions.

As all the dynasties had their own emblem so did the Alupas. They had their own features of identification. But had some common factors as well such as the royal emblem of two fishes with lotus on the obverse side. So this how u can identify the Alupa coins easily!

One such beautiful Alupa gold coin we have brought for you. It is Chattopadhyaya type Gold Pagoda weighing around 3.36g. The obverse of it depicts two fish below canopy, conch on the left and ankus (goad) to right. The reverse of it bears a Kannad legend which reads as ‘Sri pa/ndya dhana/jaya’. Isn’t it a very beautiful specimen?
