The idea of Stamp Collecting Month aka SCM began in USA in 1981. It was started as a joint venture of the Council of Philatelic Organizations and the United States Postal Service, and further, became a tradition of several countries of the world.Being the world’s most popular hobby, Stamp Collecting month aims at making people to discover the joy of stamp collecting. The Postal Service has continued to promote National Stamp Collecting Month, however, by issuing special pictorial stamps which will keep people’s interest stimulated.
The United States isn't the only country to get involved with stamp collecting by celebrating at a specific time. Germany celebrates Stamp Collecting Day every two years with a special semi postal stamp. National Stamp Collecting Month has also been celebrated in the Philippines and Australia.
It has now become a tradition to celebrate this period by releasing special stamp issue.
