2017-02-03 Fri
A 1976 Mint State 64 Eisenhower dollar with a reverse indented by a quarter dollar planchet was sold for $1,997.50 on 6th January by Heritage auctions at the 2017 Florida United Numismatists convention, Fort Lauderdale. The stranger an error coin looks, the more sought after they are. The error might have occurred when a Washington quarter dollar planchet was mixed with Eisenhower copper-nickel dollar planchets. This quarter dollar planchet was then struck between the reverse die and the dollar planchet creating a virtual second moon on the reverse.
