There was a cover design contest for Kagin’s auction catalogue that will be used at the American Numismatic Association National Money Show in Orlando, Fla. Chris T. Costello is a member of US Mint’s Artistic Infusion Program and created the winning Draped bust Liberty design. Costello would receive $5,000 on 9th March before the auction opens. The runner-up design was a creation of Italian artist Sandra Deiana who would receive $500. This one is a digitally created design of Dr. Chris Allan Collection of Bechtler Gold Coins and will be used as the catalogue’s back cover.

5 finalists were picked out of 130 designs that were submitted by more than 50 young numismatists and professional artists. The winning design was inspired by Kagin’s 1983 ANA auction catalogue cover, featuring “Lady Liberty” Peace dollar design by Peter Max.

Costello is a part of The Cyrus E. Dallin Art Museum’s Board of Trustees and a member of U.S. Mint Artistic Infusion Program. He designed the reverse of the 1792-2017-W American Liberty, High Relief, $100 gold coin; the reverse for the 2014 Great Smoky Mountains National Park quarter dollar and many other popular coins and medals. Deiana hails from Rome who is learning at a school for medallic art at the Italian Mint and is working for a project under the Central Bank of Ireland.
