The United States Mint and the National Park Service will officially release the Effigy Mounds National Monument quarter at this open to all ceremony. The coin will also be the 36th one belonging to the America the Beautiful Quarter Program. The coin features a top view of mounds in the Marching Bear Group. Other inscriptions include “EFFIGY MOUNDS,” “IOWA,” “2017,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” A free coin forum will be organised on the night before the ceremony and a free coin exchange program will take place after the ceremony. The coins will be circulated on 6th February but it might take months for it to appear more commonly as the Federal Reserve System distributes coins to financial institutions irrespective of the designs.
The launch ceremony will be around 30 to 40 minutes long where the historical background about the park will be given out. There would also be some entertaining performances which will be followed by the revelation of the new coin. School-aged children will get the coins for free.
The coin exchange program is sponsored by Kerndt Brothers Saving Bank in Waukon where $10 rolls can be exchanged for new quarters. The 1-hour coin forum which takes place a night before the ceremony allows people to know more about the U.S. Mint and to ask questions about its products.
