Guinea-Bissau Stamps Featuring Endangered Animals

Guinea-Bissau, a small country in West Africa started involving in trade activities with the Portuguese in the 17th century. After two centuries, they became colonies as Portuguese Guinea. After independence, the country has been misgoverned by many leaders and is one of the poorest countries in the world. Even though the country has seen some tough times, it has issued several topical stamps. In 1997, it issued a set of four se-tenant Endangered Animals stamps denominated in peso currency even after the country changed its currency from pesos to francs.

A crocodile, a hippopotamus, a manatee, and a sea turtle are depicted on the stamps. Since the stamps were denominated in the earlier currency, it was not distributed on a large scale. Currently, blocks of four stamps in mint never-hinged condition are priced at $25-to-$30. The set was issued in panes of 16, each of which is currently priced at $120 and above.
