2017-01-23 Mon
World Coins Signature Auction by Heritage took place on 8th and 9th January at the New York International Numismatic Convention (NYINC). The total sale at the event amounted to $15.6 million USD. The Florida United Numismatists (FUN) auction took place from 4th to 10th January and made a total business of $42.4 million. The Meiji 13 (1880) proof set of Japanese coinage, from the Commander Collection, was a highlight at the NYINC show. These coins are desirable because they are handed over to the heads-of-state or high-ranking foreign liaisons during the initial days of Japan’s interactions with the western world. Less than 10 coins are found of each type in the set. Apart from these coins, many others were sold at impressive rates at the auction.
