United States Presidential Inauguration Day!
2017-01-20 Fri
Since 1973, US Presidential Inauguration Day is held on 20th January every four years in odd-numbered years, except when January 20 falls on a Sunday! The inauguration of the President of the United States ceremony marks the commencement of a new four-year term of a president of the United States. The Chief Justice administers the oath to the president at noon (ET) on that day and the term of the president commences.
The last presidential inauguration ceremony was the swearing in of President Barack Obama to begin his second four-year term in office, which took place on Monday, January 21, 2013. For each ceremony, Washington D.C Postal Service releases postmarks to celebrate the swearing-in of the new president. This year U.S. Postal Service will offer a circular date stamp with four horizontal bars that include the words “Presidential Inauguration Day Station” in the middle of the bar markings. The circular date stamp reads, “Washington, DC 20066,” with the date in the centre as “JAN 20 2017.”
Further for each inauguration an FDC is also released featuring the new President and the Vice President. The design of the FDC commemorating the swearing in ceremony of Donald Trump (President) and Mike Pence (Vice President) is yet to be released.
