From 23rd January onwards, the sale of $100 1-ounce .9995 fine 2017 American Eagle platinum bullion coins will begin. The first orders will be taken on an allocated basis and the exact number has not yet been disclosed yet. After the stock runs out, more coins will be released. 14,000 coins were offered in 2014 and 20,000 in 2016, none were offered in 2015. All of them have been sold out.

These coins were introduced in 1997. No such coins were issued between from 2008 to 2014. Fractional versions were offered for the last time in 2014.

American Eagle bullion coins are sold by an approved network of authorised purchasers who offer a two-way market buying and selling the coins. They may resell their coins to other distributors and the public for a small premium.
