Aland’s Latest Sailing Ship Stamp Features Mermerus

A non-denominated €0.20 stamp from Aland belonging to the set of “Sailing Ship” stamps shows the bark Mariehamn on its 1881-82 voyage around the world. The ship is known for its speed and was the first Aland-owned vessel with a local crew to circumnavigate the globe.The stamp depicts Mermerus, a full-rigged iron-clad clipper, off the Chilean coast designed by Allan and printed by Cartor Security Printing.
