New Spanish Stamp Wishes Happy New Year

2017-01-12 Thu

Spain is going to issue a stamp every month starting this year featuring a different province. The first in the series was issued on 2nd January and features Guadalajara. Cadiz, Caceres, Barcelona, Cordoba, Asturias, Tarragona, Las Palmas, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Illes Balears, Teruel, and Soria are the other provinces which will be depicted on the upcoming stamps. The self-adhesive stamp issued in January is non-denominated with an “A” mark, indicating that it is valued at the basic domestic rate - €0.50.

The large “GU” with landscapes of Guadalajara within the letters, is the code that was used for Spanish license plates. The “G” includes two griffon vultures, honey from the Alcarria, and a botarga mask. The “U” has a tower of the Castle of Molina de Aragon and beech trees in Hayedo de Tejera Negra Natural Park. The purple band represents the province’s flag.
