Coins that Didn’t Reach its Expected Mark at FUN
2017-01-12 Thu
Some coins offered by Heritage auctions at the FUN 2017 Platinum Night failed to reach its estimated value and had to be offered with a set value after the sale. A 1792 Silver Center pattern cent, Judd 1, graded Very Fine 30 by NGC was available for $258,500. The same coin was sold in 2012 for $305,500 and a Specimen 35 with a green CAC sticker was sold for $352,500. Though the coin is rare, since it appeared in multiple auctions, people probably think that it is more common. The only known 1871-CC Seated Liberty dime graded MS-65 by PCGS was available for $352,500. The same coin was sold in 2014 for $270,250. Even after it got an NGC Specimen 65, it was unsold at an auction in 2016.
A 1794 Flowing Hair silver dollar graded PCGS Extremely Fine 40 that was available for $293,750 and a 1909-O Indian Head gold $5 half eagle graded MS-65 by NGC that was available for $305,500.
