Rhett Roberts Creates a Private Coin for his Hometown

2017-01-10 Tue

Rhett Roberts from Hot Springs is a local insurance adjuster and coin collector who wanted to make a unique coin for his hometown. The CEO of Visit Hot Springs, Steve Arrison suggested the Majestic for the obverse when Roberts met him for permission to use the logo on the coin. The oldest private mint in the US, Osborne Coinage Co., of Cincinnati, Ohio struck the coins. The mint images of the Majestic and the logo was used to design the dies. Roberts is the vice president of the Tri-Lakes Coin Club and has been a member of the same club for five years. He loved collecting coins from his childhood days.

1,000 coins are available and a special booth would be set up at the 51st Tri-Lakes Coin Club Coin, Stamp & Sports Card Show from 13th to 15th January at the Hot Springs Convention Centre. The coins cost $35 each with additional shipping charges. Roberts plans to issue one coin a year each year with the logo on the reverse and a different Hot Springs site on the obverse.
