On 5th January, the 62nd Annual Florida United Numismatists Convention--the 2017 FUN Show was inaugurated in Ft. Lauderdale. Though the promotions were good, the shooting at the Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) led to a lull in the numbers. A man started firing his gun in the baggage claim area of Terminal 2 leading to the death of five people and leaving eight injured. The man carried a military ID at the time of the attack and has been arrested.

Officials stated that the show was lively before but now the mood is dampened, a lot of confusion has been caused and has changed travel plans of many due to the attack. They also said that security has been tightened at the Convention Center and FUN is working with law enforcement
