Jane Austen on Latest £2 Commemorative Coin

One of the greatest novelists all time, Jane Austin is celebrated on the latest £2 coin released by The Royal Mint on 1st January. Her stories have beautifully showcased life during the 18th-/19th-century in the England. The new coin is released to observe the 200th death anniversary of this author. Jane Austin will also be featured on the Bank of England’s new £10 polymer banknote that will be released in spring.

The coin features a silhouette of the author that was originally created in circa 1810–1815 by an unknown artist. A copy of the painting was featured on Mansfield Park that was released in 1814 with the words “L’aimable Jane” or “the amiable Jane”. The original work is currently showcased at the National Portrait Gallery in London. A traditional miniature frame design is depicted around the silhouette along with the inscriptions JANE AUSTEN 1817–2017, TWO POUNDS and the authors signature.

The obverse features the common portrait of Queen Elizabeth and the inscription 2017. The coins are available in different variations like Bimetallic, Silver and Gold!
