1913 Buffalo Nickel with Beautiful Toning Offered for $28K

A toned 1913 Indian Head, Bison on Mound 5-cent piece was sold for $28,200 at Legend’s Regency Auction XIX in Las Vegas on 15th December. The coin belonged to a collection that was put together over a period of 10 years by Andy and Alynne Skrabalak of Angel Dee’s Coins and Collectibles.Fraser’s famous 5-cent piece was issued for the first time in 1913 and two subtypes are found. The Bison on Mound reverse has FIVE CENTS raised on the mound on which the bison stands, while the Bison on Plain feature a depressed area below the mound, where FIVE CENTS is protected.
Since a large number of these coins were minted, it is easily found in the market. The coin offered was about as perfect in a circulation strike with a beautiful toning.
