New Saudi Arabian Currency Notes Released

Saudi Arabia released the sixth series of banknotes with 5-, 10-, 50-, 100-, and 500-riyal issues on 26th December. The first four notes featured the country’s current king, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and the 500-riyal note features King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud or Abdul Aziz, who reigned from 1932 to 1953. The sizes of the notes keep increasing from smaller denomination to the largest denomination.

The obverse of the purple 5-riyal note features an oil field and its reverse features the native flowers. The obverse of the 10-riyal note features the Riyadh’s palace square and the reverse features the city’s financial district. The obverse of the green 20-riyal note features the Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The red coloured 50-riyal note features Prophet’s Mosque in Medina on both sides. The obverse of the blue 500-riyal note features Abdul Aziz in front of the Kaaba and the Grand Mosque in Mecca is on the reverse.
