1617 Silver Triple Reichstaler to Be Offered for an Estimated Value of €75,000

One of the three known 1617 silver triple reichstaler will be offered at an auction on 2nd February in Berlin with an estimated value of €75,000.

The 1617 coin of Pomerania-Stettin was struck for Duke of Pomerania Philip II to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Reformation. The obverse features Martin Luther in front of an altar in a church, holding scriptures, dated 1517. The reverse features a priest holding similar holy text(s), in a church but dated 1617. Such coins were issued across the German-speaking lands during the Holy Roman Empire. The coin weighs 86.93 grams and graded Almost Extremely Fine and was sold for €80,000 in January 2011.
