Palestinian Postage Stamps and Currency Exhibition

2016-12-30 Fri

Old Palestinian postage stamps and currency were showcased at an exhibition that was organised at Gaza’s Journalism House on Monday. This first-of-its-kind event in Palestine was attended by the ministry of communication and information technology.

Exhibits dated back to early civilizations like the Byzantine era, the Ottoman period, the British Mandate, and the current Israeli occupation.

The General Director of the Ministry of Communication has published 31 sets of postage stamps since 2009 in order to reflect the political, cultural, social and economic aspects of Palestinian life, apart from celebrating important Palestinian sites, plants, birds and other icons.

Officials said that the postage stamp travels around the world due to which it is the only aspect of Palestinian life that is free of the Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip.
